Are we all negative people or are we expecting far more from our schools than what our modest Tasmanian Catholic education system can deliver?
For some reason we think Tasmanian Catholic Schools are private independent schools. This is far from the reality. Our schools are generally very poor, both in equipment and resources (although some of our secondary colleges seem to be doing very well………). The only thing that makes our schools seems to achieve the unachievable is the human capital of our teachers. Their willingness to work excessively of their remuneration (and often work conditions) is a testament to their desire to help our children.
We all seem to be experts when it comes to education, after all we know what teachers do………… The problem is our opinion was developed from a very limited experience of teaching and learning…….
Are we continuing the work of Christ when we exploit our teachers and demand from them the unobtainable….through the constrains we have place on them (through our elected members)?
